SPL Power Rankings, Week 18: Al Hilal Leading The Pack With Their Heads High Up

1

Responded to last week’s disappointing draw with a solid win but we are not convinced. Took them 51 minutes to lodge the first with many squandered opportunities. Omar Khirbin – the player who yet again stood out.
LAST WEEK: 2
HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5
Latest result: Won at Faisaly 2-0
Next SPL match: Home against Al Khaleej (16/2)

This is a team that we think is — or should be — leading the table, but there’s no denying something’s not quite right with the defence as well as offence. Nasr are getting more of the ball but having big trouble turning that into high percentage chances.
LAST WEEK: 3
HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7
Latest result: Won against Al Wehda 2-1
Next SPL match: Away at Al Ahli (17/2)
3

Another solid start to a game with barrage of shots on goal of which they converted two, but some reason to worry defensively over the final 30 minutes, and also some questions still linger about how Akaichi and Kahraba fit when together.
LAST WEEK: 4
HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4
Latest result: Won at Al Taawon 2-1
Next SPL match: Away at Al Shabab (18/2)

Al Qadasiyah have shown a bit of mastery at earning points against top teams. And now that they have Elton, there is a sense of rejuvenation bringing the club back to its solid self. Has us all shocked just like the scorcher from Naif Hazazi for the fourth goal.

LAST WEEK: 5
HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13
Latest result: Won against Al Ahli 4-1
Next SPL match: Home against Al Batin (18/2)

Perhaps came into this game with a sense of entitlement, but soon realised that it wasn’t the case. Weren’t as dangerous as they could have been and got punished for the one time they took a nap. So it goes.
LAST WEEK: 1
HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6
Latest result: Lost at Qadasiya 4-1
Next SPL match: Home against Al Nassr
 (17/2)

Huge jump for the men in red & black. Not one but two people fell for that classic Bangoura fake. on that first goal. One of the goals of the season contender for sure. But should have closed the game way earlier in the game.
LAST WEEK: 13
HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13
Latest result: Won against Al Batin 2-1
Next SPL match: Away at Al Faisaly (17/2)

Mohamed Benyettou – how many chances does he need before he can convert one? Actually, we can apply that to the entire offensive line-up that had a clear cut shot at goal. Dropping points, like they don’t care anymore.
LAST WEEK: 7
HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11
Latest result: Draw against Al Khaleej 1-1
Next SPL match: Home against
 Al Ittihad (18/2)

Lost the momentum from last week, however showed some brilliance on taking down the solid defence on that goal. Just a few step-overs and all fall down. At this point, its all about making sure they show their credentials to represent KSA in the Asian Champions League.
LAST WEEK: 6
HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12
Latest result: Lost against Al Ittihad 1-2
Next SPL match: Away at Al Fareh (16/2)

Tailored through to the finish but shouldn’t had to. Had shots at goal but like their compatriots across the league, failed to convert. We will figure out a conversion percentage soon.
LAST WEEK: 9
HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14
Latest result: Lost at Al Ettifaq 1-2
Next SPL match: Home against Al Taawon (16/2)

Textbook goal directly from the training ground. However, lacked discipline in the back which cost them the two points. How about the ability to of Ali Lajami on chucking the ball in Rory Delap style from a throw-in.
LAST WEEK: 10
HIGH: 9 | LOW: 13
Latest result: Draw at Al Shabab 1-1
Next SPL match: Away at Al Hilal (16/2)

To drop points because of lax defending in ET of the 90th minute…. HURTS.
LAST WEEK: 11
HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14
Latest result: Won against Al Fateh  2-1
Next SPL match: Away at Al Wehda (17/2)
12

Their defence was so out of shape. Barely had a shot at goal but scored with the one that they had. But what’s concerning is that Al Raed were breaking that makeshift/weak offside trap at will.
LAST WEEK: 8
HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14
Latest result: Lost at Al Raed 1-2
Next SPL match: Away at Al Qadasiyah (18/2)
13

Have not registered a win against the big four this season so why would this game against Al Hilal be any different? Al Faisaly have not been able to find any answers, and time is slowly running out.
LAST WEEK: 12
HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14
Latest result: Lost against Al Hilal 0-2
Next SPL match: Home against Al Raed (17/2)

The only difference between them and Al Nassr was that their opponents had people who could finish the game. Multiple missed opportunities defines the depth of the squad. Top performance from GK Abdullah Al Araaf, though. Bravo kid.
LAST WEEK: 14
HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14
Latest result: Lost at Al Nassr 1-2
Next SPL match: Home against Al Ettifaq (17/2)
