Apart from the fact that this season saw a number of Emirati talent emerge through the ranks for their respective clubs, it was also noteworthy that six clubs within the 14-team league saw 7 or more different Emirati players on the scoresheet. The tally was led by Al Jazira featuring the heroics of star striker and Golden Boot runner-up – Ali Mabkhout.
This AGL season also witnessed 66 different players from 26 countries (excluding UAE) score an astonishing 372 goals. As the context of the stat remained consistent across the seasons, South Americans dominated the scene with Brazilians leading the charge. Also noteworthy is that the 40 goals were scored by two Argentineans – Larrivey & Tagliabue.
Clubs succumbed to pressure in the last 5 minutes with Emirates failing to keep the net clear in the 90th minute on seven different occasions. Most of any club.
