Al Ain Emineke

1

Al Ain retain top position as they do what they do best – win games like the Champions that they are. And we ask is Emineke the man to fill the void left by Gyan’s departure? At the moment – the answer looks like yes. And Omar Abdul Rahman was flawless, yet again.

Ladies and Gents – we present to you Chilean, sorry Palestinian, Luis Jimenez who is on a roll with 4 goals in 2 games. Players rejected by AGL clubs seem to do well at Al Nasr at the moment.

Latest result: Won at Al Dhafra 3-1
Next AGL match: Home against Al Wasl (9/19)

Gave it their all before the red card and completely took a good Al Wahda team apart after it. Al Shabab look very much like a team that can compete for the title this season at this rate.
LAST WEEK: 6

Latest result: Won at Al Wahda 1-0
Next AGL match: Home against Dibba Al Fujairah (9/19)

The only team from aside from Dubai based Al Nasr, Al Shabab, Al Ain to stay perfect. Consistent performance by Luis Garcia’s 6 feet + front men Belfodil and Larrivey, but a true test is yet to come.
LAST WEEK: 7
HIGH: 5 | LOW: 7
Latest result: Won against Dibba Al Fujairah 3-0
Next AGL match: Away at Al Shaab (9/18)

Was expecting Al Wasl to cause an upset but all they did was upset themselves and their fans. Actually created a bunch of chances, but it always felt like they were going to lose that game.

Latest result: Lost against Al Wasl 0-2
Next AGL match: Away at Al Nasr (9/19)

Did not dominate the way many of us expected, and needed a bit of good fortune to get the results. But a win’s a win, no matter how it happens.

Massive drop. Expected them to put up a good fight especially playing a man up for almost 30 mins to the end. They are not clicking on all cylinders as of yet, but should have at least pulled one back. But that did not happen.

Next AGL match: Away at Al Jazira (9/19)

Officially banished that woeful first 90 minutes of the season, in league football, to the trashbin with a strong performance against a team of similar calibre. There is still a lot of time to join “the top six” – as stated by Bougherra in August. Giggles.

They were, at times, painfully slow in moving the ball up front and very difficult to figure out. But they were also clean on the ball and have always proved to be a tough nut to crack for Al Jazira, but crack they did.
LAST WEEK: 9
HIGH: 9 | LOW: 11
Latest result: Lost against Al Jazira 1-2
Next AGL match: Away at Al Ain (9/19)

Unfortunate for a team that had everything go against them in the 1st half (blown offside, the other pulled back for a foul on the GK) at home against a good team. But here’s the truth: Dhafra have let opponents score at will due to defensive errors. Have to find a way to hold the fort.
LAST WEEK: 11

Latest result: Lost against Al Nasr 1-3
Next AGL match: Away at Al Ahli (9/21)

Mentioned in week 1, there was no reason to panic. It’s two games, so there’s still no need to panic just yet. But we will reach a limit of a no-panic approach soon if they can’t cough up wins against likeminded teams.
LAST WEEK: 12

Latest result: Lost at Fujairah 0-3
Next AGL match: Home against Emirates (9/18)

The AGL Power Rankings committee feels your pain, my Dibba friends. Only thing to do is take the spirit from the good first 5 minutes and move on to the next one.

Next AGL match: Away at Al Shabab (9/19)

Al Shabab is getting good. Beating Al Wahda is not easy in Abu Dhabi. Jo will be top scorer. And Al Ain will not win this year.
