Spanish La Liga teamsI know I love how Barcelona play. I am in awe of the strength of Real Madrid. But to me it feels like the whole of the year boils down to two matches. Two classicos. La Liga has suffered from the duopoly since Valencia last won the Liga, surprisingly.

This year, it has been open so far. Malaga has come back well after the first week. Valencia looks like they can take the game to the big boys. Levante, oh Dear Lord, beat Real, leaving the sarcastic Jose remarks turning sour in his own mouth before he could even exhale. As I write this, Barcelona sit on the top for the first time, but only because of goal difference. Two points stand between seven teams even though one could argue that its only six rounds gone. But doesn’t it hold promise? Can another six rounds go ahead with similar drama? Seeing Barcelona slog it through last placed Sporting Gijon, my appetite is being steadily built. Can there be three teams in it with three rounds to go. The next time I’m in Rome in front of the fountain, I’m dropping a coin in. I hope you all know what I’ll be wishing for, and I can’t say it aloud because the wish wouldn’t work if I did.
